Counselling for Sexual Abuse

Sexual abuse can be an isolated or a recurrent incident. The activities involved can range from inappropriate touching to penetration. The abuse can be disguised as ‘play’ or it may become a more serious assault. The abuser may be a relative, a stranger or an acquaintance. Whilst the abuse is frightening and traumatic at the time it occurs, some feelings may not fully impact until a later date when it is ‘better understood’.

You may experience feelings of loneliness for various reasons, these may include not telling anyone, fear of not being believed or taken seriously or even feelings of guilt. All of those feelings and emotions can leave you feeling confused even scared. Sometimes those feelings and emotions may evolve later as

  • Flashbacks/nightmares
  • Shame/guilt
  • Intense anger
  • Disrupted relational patterns
  • Fear of the consequences of the abuse
  • Isolation and stigmatization

As a counsellor, I have the experience to help you work through this process. Making the initial appointment, this will offer you the opportunity to find out if counselling is where you want to be. Click here to contact me.
